How to Properly Maintain Your Outdoor Toilet Pit or Septic Tank

To keep your outdoor toilet pit or septic tank in good condition and ensure smooth pumping, we recommend following these simple guidelines:

1. Pump it regularly!

If not pumped for a long time, the waste starts to harden, forming so-called "poo stones."

We recommend pumping at least once or twice a year, depending on usage intensity.

2. Use biological bacteria

They break down waste, toilet paper, and fats, reduce odor, and keep the mass liquid.

Recommended products:

  • Bio7 ENTRETIEN – for monthly maintenance

  • Septic Mix – budget-friendly option for regular use

How to use:

Dilute the contents of the packet in warm water and pour it into the pit or tank.
⚠️ Do not add salt, bleach, or chemical cleaners – they kill the bacteria!

3. If the pit is already hardened – use a liquefier

If the waste has become thick or solid, apply a liquefier or a “starter” dose of bacteria before pumping:

  • Bio7 CHOC – specially designed for hardened pits

  • Professional enzyme or alkaline liquefiers – available upon consultation

4. Do NOT pour into the pit:

  • Fats, oils, or soup leftovers – they solidify and form a crust

  • Laundry detergents with chlorine, bleach

  • Any household chemicals not labeled “septic safe”

5. Remind yourself!

Set calendar reminders:
📆 “Add bacteria at the beginning of each month”
📆 “Check pit level every 3 months”
